Aaronic Blessing

“The Lord Bless you

and keep you

The Lord make his face shine on you

and be gracious towards you,

The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace”

-The Aaronic Blessing

2015 came like a thief in the night; quickly, quietly and without warning. January was like a blur. Like fingers snapped and then it was February. It has been nothing but progress and goodness, but I am left wishing I was more present.

This morning I sat and read with the Lord. I read about the Sabbath and the true holiness of the day that is often robbed from the rest. There’s a story of two rabbi’s with different interpretations of the Sabbath. One held that eternity is the only importance, and anything other than the Torah was a waste of time in a temporary world. The other rabbi believed our energy should be used toward more practical things like work and the advancement of technology.

At the end of the story, two two saints continued in their strict beliefs and failed to make peace with the world. It was not until they saw an old man holding two bundles of myrtle in honor of the Sabbath– the sight of which gave both men tranquility of spirit. Myrtle is a beautiful flower that was used in ancient times as a symbol of love. It was brought to weddings to adorn the bride and bless her with joy. So the old man is carrying this plant like a gift for the bride, to honor and glorify the holiness of the Sabbath. The sight of which resonated with the rabbi’s and gave them peace amidst their conflict.

Are you wresting with something? Are you experiencing inner turmoil? Heartache? Confusion? Weariness?

The thought that just setting your eyes on God provides peace is like refuge from the chaos.

My prayer this month is that God’s grace and peace be with us all. That it greets us in the morning like a kiss and comforts us during the storms of uncertainty.
